GLASNOW & GLENSHEE

It's been a while since our last post as we've been keeping a relatively low profile here - mainly due to the weather! No doubt everyone heard of the blizzards that blanketed the UK in ice and snow a few weeks back, well Glasgow didn't cop it as much as some parts of England, but we still had some white days..

The view from our window, 2 February..

Frozen stiff(s). Disrespectful?..

Still, it's a beautuiful sight..

The Council Chambers building, mid flurry..

Old Rabbie Burns, celebrating his 250th under a blanket of snow..

Nightime cemetery view..

It's actually relaxing to just sit and stare at a view like this..

Of course, snow is a lot more fun when it's sitting on the side of a mountain! With that in mind Evan found himself at the Glenshee Ski Centre - NE of Glasgow, one Saturday morning in February - woohoo!..

The view from the top of one of our first runs. The snow was good, comparable with a good day in Oz anyway. This was actually one of the best days of the season and we just happened to luck into it...

Although not as big as resorts in the Alps or even Australia, there are still quite a few centres scattered across the middle of Scotland. Glenshee offers a number of mountains with both east and west facing runs..

Blue sky in the Scottish Highlands, in February - nice!..

Unfortunately most of the access at Glenshee is via pomas and T-bars. There are 2 chairlifts however, even if this one only seats 1 person per chair!

It's a different 'set-up' to resorts in Europe or Australia. There's no 'on-snow' accomodation or resorts in Scotland, instead you simpy park the car next to the slopes and away you go! It's great because instead of buying your lunch on the slopes you simply head back to the car and enjoy a picnic!..

My host for the day Scott, heading down from the Cairnwell, one of the highest points at Glenshee at 3059ft (932m). The wind up here was gale force coming in over the back country, luckily hitting us from behind..

Having a break for energy drinks and cookies..

Heading home along the A93 through Glenshee itself. Unfortunately these photos were taken with a disposable camera which doesn't accurately portray the spectacular view that this really is..

So, that was our experience of the snow in and around Glasgow, vastly different to what was happening in Australia at the same time. Stay tuned for more Scottish adventures soon!..
